Neuroscience and Brain Development (NBD) Cluster is one of the clusters in Indonesia Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI), Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia. Neuroscience and Brain Development (NBD) research focus on brain and mind health disorder along with correlation to other diseases, as well as brain function improvement.

Over the years, neuroscience has been progressing remarkably. Scientists continue to strive deeper understandings of how the brain cells are born, grow, connect and how these cells organize themselves into effective functional circuits in order to survive.

NBD has various research on neurodegenerative, neuropsychiatry, neuromuscular, neurogenetics, neurooncology, and neurophysiology. Collaboration between neurology, psychiatry, neuropathology, neurosurgery, neuro-rehabilitation, neurobiology, biochemistry, psychology, neuro-education and other field that still related to neuroscience has become our strenght. Several approaches use in our researches are drug development, stem cell, nutrition intake, life style and behavior intervention.

Along with the advancement of technology, NBD begin to adapt various sophisticated tools to observe brain activity. Qualitative and quantitave electroencephalography (EEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), functional transcranial doppler (fTCD), electromyography (EMG), and polysomnography (PSG) utilities has taken up our research to the next level.

In the future, NBD will continue to develop research based on the latest technology.

  1. To achieve a better cognitive function and mental capacity for Indonesian people through research activity and education program in Asia Pacific region.
  2. To be World Class Neuroscience Research

  1. Creating Neuroscience Center in Indonesia to facilitate research activity and educational program for child, adult, and elderly due to brain development - activity - stimulation – rehabilitation including neuroplasticity, genetic engineering and stem cell for repairing degenerative diseases.
  2. To do collaboration research and education program with Neuroscience Centre in Indonesia and Asia Pacific region (Swiss German University, Surya University, NUH, Sydney, Perth) and other part of the world (Victorian Brain Bank, Netherland Institute for Neuroscience (NIN), IIT Bombay, Berlin-Charite).
